Milk: Good or Bad for us?

The ad, as featured in the above video, is one of many commercials promoting milk consumption. Growing up, most of us have probably been taught to drink milk because “it will help build bones and boost growth.” Milk’s selling point is that it contains Calcium, and it was believed the dietary intake of this mineral supplements our bones in growth and development. However, research has shown that dairy products have little or no benefit for bones.(1)

Dairy products—including cheese, ice cream, milk, butter, and yogurt—contribute significant amounts of cholesterol and are the number one source of saturated fat in the diet.(1)  Dairy products have been linked to increase risk factors of cardiovascular disease, such as hypertension and cholesterol.
